Keynote Speaker: Dr David Camilleri
Dr. David Camilleri, MD, FACEM, GCertAeromedRet, is an Emergency Physician with expertise in trauma and high-acuity care. Qualifying in 2015 after his medical degree from the University of Malta (2005) and relocating to Australia in 2008, David has since dedicated his career to critical emergency medicine.
For over a decade, David served as a Retrieval Physician with LifeFlight Queensland, holding a Graduate Certificate in Aeromedical Retrieval. Since 2016, he has been a key Emergency Department Consultant at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), where he actively shapes best practice through his commitment to cross-disciplinary collaboration. At the RMH, David led the development of critical shared ED & Trauma guidelines, including that for the Traumatic Cardiac Arrest response and the Thoracotomy, consistently engaging with various medical and nursing teams to ensure integrated care.
A committed educator, David shares his passion for trauma, team response, and dynamics by regularly teaching on Emergency Trauma Management (ETM) Courses and The Alfred Procedures Course. David also holds a keen interest in optimizing massive hemorrhage protocols and the critical role of calcium administration in these scenarios. His non-clinical portfolio contributions extend to nursing education, the blood committee, the deteriorating patient committee and the trauma working group.

Keynote Speaker: Dr Kate Martin
MB.BS.BMedSci. FRACS. MTrauma. AM
Kate is a General and Trauma Surgeon. She is the Deputy Director of Trauma at the Royal Melbourne and Deputy Director of GATES at the Austin Hospital. Kate is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne.
She is a director with the EMST (ATLS) and DSTC faculties and is a member of the RACS Academy of Surgical Educators, with an active interest in surgical and trauma education. As part of the GSA-ANZAST Trauma Training Committee, Kate has been involved in establishing the PFET Program in Trauma, a program for Fellows of RACS. Kate is also the President of ANZAST (the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Surgery of Trauma).
Since starting at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in March 2020, Kate has been involved in the teaching and supervision of the general surgical junior staff and is a founding member of the Surgical Education and Training Group (SEG). Kate is also the Supervisor of Intern Training at RMH.

Panelist: A/Prof Ben Meadley ASM
Ben Meadley is a registered paramedic who commenced his career with Ambulance Victoria in 1998, followed by a period with New South Wales Ambulance from 1999-2003. Returning to Ambulance Victoria, Ben trained as an intensive care (MICA) paramedic in 2004, and an intensive care (MICA) flight paramedic in 2009. Ben has developed expertise in prehospital critical care, paramedic education, and human performance in specialist teams. Ben completed his PhD at Monash University, and his research interests include respiratory and cardiovascular physiology, point of care ultrasound, blood component use in critical care, human performance optimisation, and helicopter search and rescue operations. Ben divides his time between his role as the Director of Paramedicine at Ambulance Victoria with teaching and research as an adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Paramedicine, and for services to paramedicine was awarded the Ambulance Service Medal in 2023.
